On the battle, I'd use Horse Archers as Archers that can rapidly change position. Problem with Khergits is that AI has no idea how to use them, and just assumes they're a conventional force, both on campaign and battlefield. Burn every village the enemy has before engaging him, that'll cripple his ability to reinforce his armies after the battle. They're fast so engage in guerilla warfare. Due to their speed, they shine the most on a campaign.

Khergits are by no means the most useful or easy faction. Seriously this could all be wrapped up if I lined up my Nords and charged. What am I doing wrong? I'm trying typical Horse Archer tactics, skirmishing them with bows and then hammering them with lancer charges but the enemy just takes it. I have to micromanage like crazy to make sure that they're actually facing the enemy but not engaging in melee with them.Īt least my lancers actually try to kill the enemy but the problem is they're only a tier 4 melee unit and since they're the strongest the Khergits get they die so quickly, a Level 8 Ymira is surviving more easily than most of them. There's no way to make the archers skirmish with the enemy, you're lucky if you can get them to shoot their bows half the time, and they just sit on their horses looking at the enemy. How even do I use them? I'd never before used them for large battles, only for minor skirmishes with bandits and sea raiders, and armies that my Nord gate-breakers could have cleaned up without a single casualty, I come away with several dead and many more wounded. I just took Baryyie from the Rhodoks (don't ask me why the Rhodoks had Baryrrie, the Sarranids didn't seem to mind) and satisfied with my first city, I garrisoned my assorted collection of Nord Veterans and Huscarls and began working with my Khergit troops. Then I recruited a 100 Nord peasants to train as my gate-breakers and started grinding them up into Huscarls. However, this all changed when I captured my first castle and was able to garrison all my troops there.

I enjoyed the early game dynamic of cavalry only, grinding on Steppe Bandits and the like, and continued to rise through the ranks of the Khergit aristocracy with pure Khergit troops. Hey, I'm a good way into a Khergit campaign.
